Color, Clarity, Cut & Carat Weight

Now that you have found the love of your life, finding the perfect diamond to say, “Will you marry me?” should be exciting and stress free. The best way to get started when purchasing an engagement ring is to get familiar with the 4 C’s. They are the four factors that diamond professionals use when determining the value of a diamond: Color, Clarity, Cut and Carat weight. These qualities are a direct relation to rarity and therefore influence price.

Color Actually, it’s the absence of color that is the most valuable. The color grading scale runs from D through Z. D-F are colorless, and therefore the most rare. G-J is considered near colorless. K diamonds start to appear slightly yellow to the naked eye, continuing darker as you move down the alphabet.

Clarity Refers to “inclusions” in a diamond. The less impact these flaws have on a diamond's ability to refract light, the more valuable the diamond. The clarity grading scale starts at Flawless with IF (internally flawless), being the rarest, VVS (very very slightly included) 1-2, VS (very slightly included) 1-2, SI (slightly included) 1-2, and 1 (imperfect) 1.2.3. (If this seems confusing, just ask your personal jeweler. That's what we're here for.)
